Our Mission
Support Can Come in Many Forms. We provide access to resources through our four pillars of support.
01
Provide Knowledge
We provide information for users to learn more about mental health, how to break through the stigmas of mental illness, and some helpful tools when struggling with mental health.
02
Connect to Care
Our site seeks to provide access to the resources individuals need to connect to care. Whether in need of a crisis line, local therapist, or larger association, Depressingly Successful strives to connect community members to the resources they need
03
Foster Community
We offer opportunities to connect and communicate with other members of our community through general discussion forums, question-and-answer postings, and blog posts from admin and members.
04
Fundraise ~ Through Art
We partner with local and national mental health agencies to raise funding for mental health services for people in need. A portion of the proceeds from all sales in our shop are donated to provide mental health support.

Our Story
I will never forget the first time I realized that I hated myself. I was in my graduate school dorm in Shanghai, China, overlooking the city and wondering why I was still being plagued by the sadness and malcontent that had always seemed to haunt me. I had been taught to believe that my value was determined by the magnitude of my accomplishments, and as such, I had always expected happiness to be on the other side of my nearest accolade. I believed I would find happiness as soon as I finished this degree, landed that impressive job, or reached some other grand milestone in life. It wasn't until I had surpassed even my wildest expectations that I realized the secret to finding happiness was not through achieving success. I was in my dream graduate program, piloting a global initiative for one of the most esteemed universities in my field, being regarded and admired by friends, family, colleagues, and mentors... and yet, the deep-seated feelings of sadness and shame were still there. I realized that day that it didn't matter where in the world I went or what goals I went on to accomplish. I was the cause of my suffering. The longer I tried to ignore this lesson, the harder it became to function through the pain. I turned to substances, distractions, and a manner of unhealthy coping mechanisms to push through my work without having to address my declining mental health. After years of sacrificing my health and well-being, I found myself in an inpatient psychiatric unit in New York City, having a full-blown mental health crisis. I was so low that I had lost interest in being alive, yet so successful that no one there could understand why.

Meet the Founder
Welcome! I’m Alecia Kipping, founder and CEO of Depressingly Successful.
I received my Master of Social Work degree from New York University (NYU), where I learned all about mental health, illness, and the bio-psycho-social environments that shape who we are. During this time, I had the privilege of piloting three global social work programs for NYU, studying and working all over the world, and coming face-to-face with the realities of how impactful access to resources and support are on a person's life and opportunity. This was also when I realized I had been struggling with mental health disorders for as long as I could remember.
My life's goal is to help people access the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. By day, I work in government and policy to try to improve our systems so that they work better for everyone. By night, I work to improve myself through strategic goal planning, creating art, supporting local businesses, or connecting with people I care about. I now seek to step up my game as a resource to my community and invite you all to partake in this new platform that was created to help you support yourself, your loved ones, and your communities in traversing the path toward happiness and mental well-being.
Thank you for the time you spend here. Best wishes, and be well.
~ Alecia
